The prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship provides $7,500 for undergraduate expenses to students who plan to pursue a PhD and research career in mathematics, the sciences or engineering. (Note: Students who plan to get an MD/PhD would qualify, but not those who plan to pursue an MD alone.) Current juniors and sophomores–defined as having 1 or 2 additional year(s) of undergraduate study after 2024-25–may apply for the Goldwater. Successful candidates have a strong academic record (3.85 GPA or above), extensive research experience, and three strong letters of recommendation from professors in their field. In recent years 70 UW-Madison students since 2000 have won Goldwater Scholarships. You could be next! To compete nationally applicants must be nominated by their undergraduate institution.
